Tips and tricks for happy, healthy Warriors!

Craigy and GW at BOOT CAMP!

Craigy and GW at BOOT CAMP!

I’d always wanted to give a Boot Camp a go so when Craigy Boy (foolishly) left me in charge of booking us a romantic week away before we part company for a wee while this summer I thought I’d surprise him with a five day Boot Camp in Dorset. Yup, I know how to treat my man. It’s a jolly good job that he’s also a fan of fitness and healthy eating otherwise it could have ended very badly indeed. Share the... More →
So you want to eat clean?

So you want to eat clean?

If, like me, you’re looking to become a lean, clean eating machine then look no further because today I’m introducing you to a website which I am convinced will encourage you to keep going if you have already embarked upon your clean eating journey or will inspire you to get up and at ’em if you still find yourself at the starting block. Clean eating isn’t as scary, complicated, time consuming or as expensive as it sounds and it’s even less daunting when you realise that there are a plethora of sites out there that will guide you every single step of the way. My sugar free journey so far…

My sugar free journey so far…

Greetings Warriors of the World! This fine and chilly day I’m giving you a brief update on how I’m progressing with my sugar free journey. If you follow my blog on a regular basis, and I know you all do, then you’ll be aware that I’m trying to free myself from the bondage that is my sugar addiction for once and for all. I want to retrain my tastebuds to crave wholesome, healthy foods rather than cookies, brownies, cakes, chocolate and basically anything else which contains seriously high levels of refined and wretched sugar.   Share the... My FIVE fave ways to keep fit!

My FIVE fave ways to keep fit!

I came into this world bounding with fizz and energy which probably explains why, from a young age, my exhausted parents packed me off to as many clubs and activities as time and money would allow! Dancing, swimming club, gymnastics, Brownies, netball, badminton, plays schemes during the school holidays… The hope was that my energy levels would be sufficiently depleted to allow for a slightly quieter life at home! (Didn’t work by the way). Fast forward three decades and the duracell bunny that is the Ginger Warriors is still going strong! The only difference is that it’s now Craigy Boy who packs me off to my clubs and activities! Fitness plays a HUGE role in my life and on a daily basis. I usually do two hours of physical activity a day apart from a Sunday which is my rest day and allows my battered body to recover and repair. Speaking of which, as I sit writing this I’m aware of a subtle ache in my pecs which means that Monday’s weight lifting session did its job! Share the... More →
My name is Ceri Davies and I am a sugar addict

My name is Ceri Davies and I am a sugar addict

My name is Ceri Davies and I am a sugar addict. And I have been for as long as I can remember. As a child I used to wait until my mum was upstairs and I would raid the biscuit tin, shovelling them into my mouth at breakneck speed before she came back down. Sometimes I would even mix icing sugar with butter and eat it straight with a spoon  Bet you didn’t know that, did you mum? I also bet you’re not surprised. At school they sold incredibly chocolatey moist bars of tiffin at lunchtime and I would beg and borrow (not steal) money from my chums to get my fix. And I wouldn’t just eat one. I’d eat two or three. And I never felt sick. I suppose my body was so used to elevated levels of sugar. It had already been in training for years by this point. Did you make any New Year’s resolutions?Chances are, if you did, that at least one will include an improvement in your physical well-being such as becoming more active or shedding a few unwanted pounds. Now I’m not suggesting that you should lose weight or need to lose weight but if weight loss is part of your 2015 Action Plan then here is a story that is sure to encourage and inspire. Su Kinton literally transformed her body and this is how she did it. Maria Kang: inspiration or irritation?

Maria Kang: inspiration or irritation?

The lady in the picture above is called Maria Kang and she became the object of intense media scrutiny, both good and bad, roughly this time last year. She posted the following picture on her Facebook page and it didn’t take it long for it to go viral. Nor did it take long for the backlash to begin and for the gloves to come off. A whole lot of people were royally pissed off with Maria and took her “What’s your excuse?” message as though it was aimed at them personally: “obnoxious”, “arrogant”, “a fat shaming bully” were just some of the names thrown her way. My ovaries are bigger than yours

My ovaries are bigger than yours

A strange title for a blog, perhaps, but chances are that my ovaries are indeed bigger than yours. Bigger isn’t always better, however, and in this case my enlarged estrogen and progesterone secreting organs are a sign that all is not entirely as it should be in Reproductive Land. Share the... Noom: A new FITNESS app that could be for YOU!

Noom: A new FITNESS app that could be for YOU!

Thursday morning saw the GW taking a cheeky little trip into London Town. There I am on the tube making my way to Baker Street for a connection to Oxford Circus. There’s nothing like a gratuitous tube selfie with big red lips! What took me into the nation’s capital was an invitation from my friend Sarah Moriarty to attend the UK launch of Noom’s body confidence campaign and habit-changing challenge. Chances are you’ve never heard of Noom so allow me to enlighten and inform. Suck it up, spread ’em, get it done!

Suck it up, spread ’em, get it done!

The vast majority of women hate it to the extent that 1 in 5 of us ignore the dreaded letter that arrives like clockwork once every three years (or once every 5 years if you’re over 50). You start to forget about the letter which is now at the bottom of a very large pile of other correspondence you’re choosing to overlook until, lo and behold, you receive a reminder. Then another and another after that. It seems the NHS would like you to take their invitation to participate in a potentially life-saving procedure seriously. Share the... More →
Clean 9 Cleanse is complete!!

Clean 9 Cleanse is complete!!

I didn’t think I would, Craigy Boy didn’t think I would, anyone who knows me and my love for all things sweet probably didn’t think I would… BUT I DID!  I, The Ginger “sweet toothed” Warrior saw the Clean 9 Cleanse through to its conclusion (there might have been one minor slipage, more on that in the video) and really ought to give myself a hearty slap on the back. There. Just did it. Bit awkward twisting my arm at that angle, but I did it.This blog post is going to be short and sweet (Oooh! There’s that word again! ) since everything you need to know you will find in my final video diary. Share the... More →
Clean 9 cleanse: Days 4, 5 & 6

Clean 9 cleanse: Days 4, 5 & 6

OVER HALF-WAY THERE!! Not that I’m relieved or anything. I want to drink aloe vera gel at every meal for the rest of my life! Yes, you do detect notes of thick sarcasm, almost as thick as the gel itself.  😉 Since we last touched base several things have happened: 1) Despite what I just said I’m actually at peace with the aloe. It’s a necessary evil and tastes slightly less vile the more I ingest. 2) I found a way to make the pancake-mix-like milkshakes taste deeeeelicious! But you’ll have to watch my video below to find out what I did. 3) On Saturday, Day 6, I weighed and measured myself and the results are in!  But before we get to that part, which I know is the part you all want to get to, let me remind you of the menu for days 4, 5 & 6. Here it is Share the... More →
Clean 9 Cleanse: Day Three

Clean 9 Cleanse: Day Three

Today was a day of significance in the Clean 9 cleanse program for two reasons: first of all, 600 calories worth of good, old fashioned food were thrown into the mix.  YEE-FREAKIN-HAH is all I have to say on that one. Actually, thats’s not all I have to say (never is really), for it is at this juncture that I wish to say something with the utmost sincerity.  I am grateful for food. I am grateful that we live in a country where food is not only readily available but available in abundance. I know I only went without for two days but it truly does give you a different perspective and makes you realise just how darn lucky you are. My aim once I have completed the cleanse is not only to continue eating clean but also to not take for granted that which sustains me from day to day. Share the... More →
Clean 9 Cleanse: Day Two

Clean 9 Cleanse: Day Two

Day Two wasn’t as tough as I thought it would be but in saying that, I’m happy to get it over and done with and to move on to Day Three which involves my favourite F word in the whole world. FOOD!! Here is my “meal plan” for Day Two.  Once again, the shakes proved to be my Clean 9 nemesis.  But you know what they say Warriors – if it’s easy then it ain’t worth it so just suck it up baby!  (And gag later). Clean 9 Cleanse: Day One

Clean 9 Cleanse: Day One

Here it is, my World Wide Warriors, my account of Day One of the Clean 9 Cleanse in the form of  a video diary!  But before you watch it with intrigue, interest and relief (that it’s not you slurping on aloe vera gel) let me give you my vital statistics and general feelings as they stand on Day One. I was slightly more than I thought when I hit the scales but this has only spurred me on to intensify my efforts and to remain steadfast and on plan. Share the... More →
Clean 9 Cleanse: An Introduction

Clean 9 Cleanse: An Introduction

Today is the my first day of a nine day cleanse called the CLEAN 9 CLEANSE.  Have you ever heard of it? Perhaps you’ve tried it already.  How did it work for you? It has worked remarkably well for some of my friends and work colleagues which is why I’ve decided to give it a bash. Six weeks until my much anticipated trip to California and some of my white bits are proving a tad too wobbly for my liking! Share the... More →
PMS: myth or monthly woe?

PMS: myth or monthly woe?

I’ve just finished reading an article published last year in the Sydney Morning Herald (oh the places you end up on the internet) and I’m feeling somewhat indignant. It discusses a study carried out by the University of Toronto which explored the relation between a women’s mood swings and the pre-menstrual phase of her cycle. The author of the article (a woman) appears to agree with the university’s finding that PMS does not in actual fact exist.   Share the... More →
Coping with stress and anxiety

Coping with stress and anxiety

I already touched upon my unfortunate brushes with the soul-sucking monster that is anxiety in THIS post way back when we first started blogging together. I told it like it was. I tend to do that. As well as episodical anxiety (haven’t had any since 2009. Where is the nearest wooden object??) I also apparently suffer from truth Tourettes and find it extremely difficult (not impossibe, I’m human) to tell a lie. At least you’ll always know where you stand, Warriors. I, personally, cherish honesty and transparency in a person and appreciate spades that are spades. Share the... More →
5 ways to keep the sniffles at bay!

5 ways to keep the sniffles at bay!

I’ve had more colds in the past year than I’ve had in my entire almost 36 years  of existence – no exaggeration. September – first cold of the academic year November– had  a cold which turned into laryngitis and no voice for almost three days. (Yes, the world was a quieter place for a brief spell). December – had a cold which turned into a chest infection. February – had strep throat which had started off as cold. April – had a cold. At the time of writing – I have, yup, you guessed it, a cold. It is currently sitting in my chest and every now and again I hock up an impressive amount of phlegm. Beautiful. Share the... More →
Diet pills. Have you? Would you?

Diet pills. Have you? Would you?

What lengths would you go to in order to shed a few or many unwanted pounds? Crash diet? Juice detox? Sew your mouth shut? How’s about diet pills. Have you? Would you? I sometimes wonder if Facebook isn’t hacking into the web camera on my laptop and checking out me and my could-be significantly-slimmer-body since the vast majority of sponsored ads that show up in my newsfeed are concerned with weight loss. Like this one for example: Share the... More →
Gym? What gym? I workout with my furniture!

Gym? What gym? I workout with my furniture!

Finding the time, money and inclination for  the gym can be challenging.  What if I were to tell you that with nothing but  your own body weight, gravity and a few choice pieces of household furniture you could be building up a serious sweat without stepping a foot outside? ‘Tis a true story, my willing-to-workout-without-the-torture-of-the-gym-Warriors! Mindfulness: achieving greater balance in life

Mindfulness: achieving greater balance in life

Today was Teacher Training Day at my school. I’ve sat through dozens of them in my ten year teaching career ranging from the highly stimulating to the mind-numbingly dull. I regret to report that the large majority would slot rather nicely into the latter category. It was little wonder, therefore, that I was less than excited to attend today’s session and had to psyche myself up as I drove to school, chanting over and over again in my head: “must stay awake GW, must stay awake…” Share the... Be kind to yourself, Warriors!

Be kind to yourself, Warriors!

So here we are! Monday morning: an opportunity to renew good intentions, revisit lapsed resolutions and start the week afresh. For too many of us though, this is exactly when we are hardest on ourselves: our inner critics go into overdrive reminding us how much we have to do, and everything that didn’t quite get done last week. With Springtime comes an added pressure. This morning, like me, have you looked in the mirror with a groan and a promise to get back on the diet and go to the gym? Share the... More →
Would you ever go under the knife?

Would you ever go under the knife?

It’s Thought-Provoking Thursday today Warriors and I would really love to get some debate and discussion under way! More and more of you are beginning to leave comments and I truly do love hearing what you have to say so please, please keep it coming. If you have yet to leave a comment, don’t be shy; let your feelings, thoughts and opinions be known! Here in Warrior Land we are a family and we respect each other’s views implicitly. The balancing act called Motherhood

The balancing act called Motherhood

Hello, I’m Charlotte. Regular readers may remember me from Monday Morning Musings a couple of weeks ago.  I was the crazy lady with a 4 year old, 2 year old and a 4 month old baby who probably put Ceri off having children for life. When she asked me if I would write a piece on the challenges facing the working mother my first thought was ‘where do I begin?’.  It’s a huge topic which gives rise to a massive range of emotions and opinions. There’s so much to say and it’s all been said so many times by so many women but here goes for my own personal take on it all. Share the... More →
The Ginger WORRIER

The Ginger WORRIER

When I tell people that I have had pretty serious episodes with anxiety in the past they look at me in astonishment and disbelief and usually say something along these lines: “You Ceri?  Anxiety?  But you’re such a confident and outgoing person!”. Well yes, that is completely true, I am very confident and outgoing but anxiety is no respecter of persons: young, old, male, female, extrovert, introvert, black, white.. it can strike fear, quite literally, into the heart of any individual.  And it’s not fun.  Not one bit.
