A couple of days ago I took you on a trip to Napa Valley and I described it as one of the most beautiful places on earth. The same could be said of today's destination, Lake Tahoe, which provides a veritable feast for the eyes. I mean seriously, check out that view! I took this picture from one of the many vantage points along the way and it's my favourite vacation shot so far. What adjective would you use to describe what you see? Peace? Tranquility? Beauty? Paradise? I vote all of the above and more!
Denise and I started with the Vikingsholm trail - a moderate one mile trek down to the mouth of The Emerald Bay. Once there we hired a paddle board
and a kayak
from this company
ran by these lovely people.
We navigated the calm ripples of the crystal clear waters over to Fannette Island, the only island on Lake Tahoe which rises 150 feet above the water.
The stone structure on top is known as the "tea house" and in the 1920's and 30's a Mrs Josephine Knight and her friends would access the island by motorboat and would enjoy afternoon tea together whilst no doubt marvelling at the beauty of their surroundings.
